What We Do
InsideNGO is the essential community for today’s international relief and development organizations. For nearly 40 years, we have been “inside” the global NGO community, supporting organizations as they address the world’s most pressing social issues. Behind every development program that works, there is smart leadership backed by strong operations teams, and our passion lies in helping those professionals deliver on their organizations’ missions. We do this with our focus on operational excellence.
As an NGO based in Africa, having access to InsideNGO’s platform and network of experts and peer-to-peer exchanges is critical to the ongoing health and development of the organization. From the Annual Conference in Washington, DC, to more regional and local meetings and trainings/workshops, we value our membership.

Who We Are
Our organizational members—360 strong—represent the dynamic mix of all those leading development work today: non-governmental organizations (NGOs), for-profit companies with an expertise in international development, sector experts with deep roots in global issues, nonprofit policy organizations, and academic institutions advancing sustainable development.
Our engaged community across this network of expertise includes individuals at all levels within these organizations—one organizational membership opens the door to all employees’ participation. We serve those who work across all areas of operations, from the leaders in the C-suite to the managers and other team members dedicated to the functional disciplines of human resources, information technology, legal, and finance, grants, and contracts.
We also partner with more than 50 industry service providers who are recommended by our members and deeply committed to the NGO community.
What We Do
Build Community. Learning, sharing, collaborating, and connecting have always been the pillars of InsideNGO membership. Our strength is in our members, and we bring them together regularly for peer-to-peer exchanges. We convene more than 50 events annually for senior leaders, such as our quarterly CEO, CFO, and COO Forums. Our topical roundtables, free to members throughout the year, are popular events where functional experts discuss problems, solutions, and best practices. Twice a year, our members in the field come together at our InsideNGO weeks in Africa and Asia.
Enable Learning. Thousands of professionals take advantage every year of InsideNGO’s 150+ national and international workshops, e-Learning offerings, and webinars to build their capacity in the areas of USAID compliance; finance, grants, and contracts; human resources; project management; and organizational and operational effectiveness. Our annual conference, a members-only event, provides two-and-a half days of learning, networking, and community building.
Provide Expertise: We have a deep expertise across the functional areas named here, and we rely on our members to share their own knowledge. Our annual surveys on HQ and expat compensation are acclaimed industry benchmarking tools; we are also a source of information and insight on indirect costs, software usage, and other pressing topics in the sector. Our members-only online restricted site supports the exchange of issues, ideas, and solutions globally.
Engage in Advocacy: We advocate on behalf of our members, representing their views and priorities to key funders—especially the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of State, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We also work with other partners and coalitions to support the full funding of traditional indirect investments in the key operational capabilities that sustain long-term results.
Our shared commitment to NGO operational excellence is the special promise of InsideNGO: Members helping members at all levels across the sector, supporting each other to achieve greater global impact.
To strengthen the operational and management capacity of organizations in the global NGO community througheffective collaboration, practical solutions, professional development, and advocacy.
