Peter Sargent

Director, Consultancy & Client Services

Summary

Peter is director of consultancy and client services at Humentum, leading a global team of subject matter experts that support organizations to embrace operational excellence through the delivery of services that produce tangible and significant outcomes. He passionately believes in the transformative power of inspiring organizations around the world to adopt good practices in operational excellence in order to improve performance.

After witnessing in India how good financial management practice can have a significant effect in supporting organizations to achieve positive social impact, Peter left a career as a chartered management accountant (ACMA, CGMA) in the private sector to gain direct, hands-on field experience in Burundi with an international NGO. He then joined Mango’s register of finance professionals in 2001, via the recruitment service, and subsequently worked in a variety of field finance roles with different NGOs which provided the opportunity to live and work extensively in east and central Africa. As a NGO finance specialist and freelance consultant, he gained significant experience in offering insights, tools, and new approaches adapted to multiple contexts, at field, regional and head office level.

Peter’s particular interest is in building the capacity of local NGO partners and improving grant and risk management strategies. Having worked with Mango as a trainer and consultant, running courses in French and English around the world, he became director of Mango’s client services team in 2014, both leading the team and delivering work directly. In addition, Peter is actively involved in various communities of practice in the sector to support sharing and learning between peers.

Peter lives in Cardiff, Wales with his wife and three small children, where he serves as Treasurer on the Board of Trustees for the Welsh Centre for International Affairs, an organization which aims to inspire learning and action on global issues.

Q + A

What are your favorite hobbies outside of work?

Road cycling and dinghy sailing

What is your favorite place you’ve been to, and where do you want to go next?

Having spent 12 years overseas living in Burundi, DRC, Sudan, and Russia, I've been lucky enough to go to lots of great places. Closer to home in Cardiff, Barafundle Bay is a favourite, beautiful little cove on the Pembrokeshire coast (Wales), and I'm looking forward to visiting Glen Coe (Scotland) this summer.
