James Sailer is the board chairman and has been an InsideNGO board member since 2009. He serves as a member of the executive, governance, and sustainability committees. Jim is vice president and executive director of the Population Council’s Center for Biomedical Research (CBR), which conducts research and develops new methods of contraception and prevention of HIV and STIs. Jim leads and provides strategic direction to the basic, translational, and clinical research portfolio – both for operations and staff. Jim has experience in the nonprofit, government, and private sectors as director of performance management for the New York City Department of Education; chief operating officer at Privista, an internet-based company protecting consumers against identity theft; a senior manager at Accenture; and managing director at West End New Media, a boutique marketing consulting firm. A former adjunct professor at Brooklyn College and City University of New York, Jim holds a B.A. in political science from Swarthmore College and a master’s in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School. He lives with his family in Brooklyn.
